Manu, who went out in glorious fashion with the Highlanders, leading the side - with co-captain Ben Smith - to a maiden Super rugby trophy in 2015, has had a very quiet season with Edinburgh Rugby.
A neck injury caused him to miss nearly six months of the season and he spent a long time trying to get back on the field.
All up he played only nine games, including two appearances off the bench, for the Edinburgh side.
It finished just outside the top six of the Pro 12 league, and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The league contains club sides from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy.
Manu, who played first-class rugby for Canterbury before he played club rugby in Christchurch, was a great servant for the Highlanders.
He was sorely missed in 2013 when a foot injury ruined his season but came back in 2014 and 2015 to have stellar seasons.
All up he played 81 Super rugby games, 65 of them for the Highlanders.
Manu (27) signed a two-year deal with Edinburgh last year before he finished with the Highlanders.
An inability to crack into the All Black scene was one of the reasons Manu headed off-shore.
He gave a man-of-the-match performance in Edinburgh's opening Pro 12 league win over Leinster at Meggetland in September last year.
But that was about as good as it got. Manu was injured before Christmas and did not get back on the field until nearly six months later.
He played on the blindside flank for the Edinburgh side in its last game of the season, which was a loss to Cardiff earlier this month.
With the defeat, Edinburgh finished ninth and will not play in the European Rugby Champions Cup next season.
