But tonight he has his mind only on disappointing the home fans.
Li (21) will be one of the danger men for North Harbour tonight in the Championship final.
The left winger has signed for the Highlanders for next year but is not looking any further ahead than Forsyth Barr Stadium tonight.
"I’m just fully focused on what is happening this week with the final. I’m not thinking about next year and that is the way it should be," he said.
"This year has gone well for us and I think it is because we are getting on really well with each other. The guys just enjoying each other’s company. I like coming back and playing for North Harbour as you are playing with your friends."
Li was in fine form last week in the semifinal against Wellington, scoring one try, and setting up the match-winner although he coughed the ball up with the tryline in front of him near the end of the match.
He said the renewed success for North Harbour — it won just four games in three seasons in 2011-13 — was no big secret.
"We’re just playing for each other. The players, coaches, everyone, just enjoying the season."
Li said Otago had to be respected and playing at home would be to its advantage.
The teams clashed last month with Otago coming out on top 24-1.
Li is part of a dangerous North Harbour backline and has had an impressive season for North Harbour.
He sits second in the statistics for metres carried, second-equal in tries scored with seven and third for defenders beaten.
North Harbour has named an unchanged team from the side which beat Wellington last week.
