The club journeyed all the way to Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty to compete in the national IRB championships over the weekend, the last event on the surf life-saving schedule for this summer.
Although it had to bow to Sunset Beach Surf Life Saving Club, from Port Waikato, which was a convincing winner, the St Clair club did well to finish second overall.
The next-best South Island crew was Sumner, which finished in seventh place.
The East End Surf club, from New Plymouth, and host club Papamoa Surf Life Saving club finished third-equal, one point behind St Clair.
Waimarama Surf Life Saving Club, from Hawkes Bay, finishing close behind in fifth.
St Clair won three gold medals.
The team of Arthur Ibbotson, Angus Mackenzie and James Coombes won the men's under-21 tube rescue.
Ibbotson, Mackenzie and Anaia Wiparata combined to win the under-21 men's rescue.
In the women's single rescue, the St Clair team of Briar Taylor, Maysha Ahrens and Libby Clifton came out on top.
St Clair also picked up top three placings in the women's assembly rescue, the under-21 assembly rescue, the women's tube rescue and the mass rescue.
