No 129: Greg Turner wins Australian PGA (1999)
Greg Turner's 12 professional wins - including four on the European Tour - elevate him into the top tier of the country's golfers.
He turned professional in 1984 and won the New Zealand PGA that year. He won the New Zealand Open twice (1989 and 1997) and the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1990.
It was in Europe that Turner really made his name. He made over 2 million on tour, with significant wins in the Scandinavian Open (1986), the Italian Open (1993) and the British Masters (1997).
Turner was also a member of the International team that had a famous - and rare - victory over the United States in the 1998 Presidents Cup in Melbourne.
With such success, it is difficult to highlight one (or two) moments. But Turner's career was rounded off nicely by a win in the Australian PGA in 1999, when he held off Craig Parry to win by two shots at the Victoria Golf Club.
"I have no regrets. Put it this way, if I was offered everything I've achieved in my career when I started out as a 21-year-old, I'd have taken it," Turner said when he retired after 18 years.
"I've had no hardships and been relatively injury-free. You really can't ask too much more than that."
Turner remains involved through golf through course design, administration and television commentary.
