Irene van Dyk will lead a New Zealand team that is a mixture of youth and experience at the FastNet world series in England later this month.
FastNet, a bit like cricket's Twenty20, is a shortened version of the game with rolling substitutions, two-point goals from shooting from outside the goal circle, double-point power plays and six-minute quarters.
New Zealand have won it since its inception in 2009 and a number of the current Silver Ferns have opted to play in the tournament. Van Dyk will be joined by the likes of Maria Tutaia, Kayla Cullen, Katrina Grant, Cathrine Latu and Anna Scarlett.
The Silver Ferns players can decide to play in the tournament and some, like Laura Langman who has played every test since her debut in 2005, will remain in New Zealand.
"This is a great opportunity to represent New Zealand in this version of the game and for the younger and less experienced players in this group this is another chance to push for higher honours,'' said New Zealand FastNet and Silver Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu.
Jamaica and England traditionally send full-strength outfits to the tournament that will be played in Liverpool from November 25-27 while Australia approach it in much the same way as New Zealand with a mixture of talented youngsters and full internationals.
