Footballsouth faces a test of character when it plays Capital Football in the national women's league game at the Caledonian Ground tomorrow.
A 5-0 loss to Canterbury in the first round was a traumatic start for coach Darren Rewi's young side, but he is confident the team can build on that experience.
"Our defence is definitely the youngest in the competition, but Laura Wallis has the skills to lead the back four and ensure that they give 100% at all times," Rewi said.
"Elise Mamanu-Gray has combined with Kushla Glover to form a central midfield that many teams will find it hard to break down, and which is as good going forward as it is defending."
The team will have to find an edge in attack to upset Capital Football, which is coached by the formerly Dunedin-based Johan Koutstaal.
Since the Dutchman's side beat Canterbury 2-0, the signs are ominous.
Koutstaal is without Sarah Gregorius, who scored both goals last week, and the coach said he was preparing for a tough battle against Footballsouth.
