Mosgiel ambushed Dunedin Technical at Memorial Park, beating the former Soccersouth Premier League leader 2-1 in a match that surprised some, but certainly not the loyal plainsmen support.
Irish defender Colin Falvey earned kudos by playing so soon after his appendectomy, and player-coach Michael McGarry showed his pedigree with an effortless performance in midfield.

And for those who thought McGarry was past his sell-by date, veteran striker Phil Kelly did what he does best and clipped in Mosgiel's winner, after Michael Abbott had opened the scoring.

Technical's Ross Mackenzie scored from the penalty spot, but upset referee Allan Martin, who redcarded the midfielder late in the match.

While pundits forecast a blemish-free run for Technical towards the SPL championship, the Mike Fridge-coached side has now dropped six points, and the competition has become extremely interesting now only four points separate the top seven sides after seven rounds.

Roslyn-Wakari also stubbed its toe at the Caledonian Ground where a hard-working University side scored first then hung on to draw 1-1. Not a bad performance for the scarfies who sit second-bottom in the SPL.

Sam Green set up University with a splendid goal after 26min, when he raced square across the box and laced an unstoppable shot past keeper Peter Evans.

Varsity then lost key defender Liam McKinlay, and later Fraser Johnston, through injuries, and as Roslyn pummelled the defence, it took an inspired match from keeper Josh Bell to thwart player-coach Terry Boylan's side.

Without top-scorer Ben Keat and fellow striker Ant Hancock, Roslyn struggled to penetrate and squandered a series of corners and free kicks through poor delivery.

But chasing what looked like an overhit pass, Mike Eisenhut drilled over a near-post cross that Sean Brand attacked under pressure from keeper Bell and bravely headed an 82nd-min equaliser.

At Sunnyvale, coach Kevin Scoullar surveyed his depleted ranks as Green Island started without five regulars to take on Caversham.

Bad became worse as the Island centreback Euan Kyle was injured after 15min, and Caversham ran riot with a fine display of crisp passing and attacking play.

Taking over from regular keeper Callum Flaws, veteran Wayne Mansfield gave everything he had, but probably got back ache retrieving the ball from his net in the 7-nil defeat.

Lanky front-runner Carson Gorecki scored his second hattrick in a fortnight. Other scorers were Croydon Wheeler, Robbie Deeley, Tom Jackson and, dive heading the goal of the match, centreback Mike Smith.

At the Gardens, Simon Collins scored another three-point winner for Northern as coach Steve Brook's side beat Grants Braes 1-nil to move into fifth place.

In Queenstown, the Otago Youth match was suspended shortly after it began because of snow blowing across the pitch. When it resumed, the local side quickly grabbed a 2-nil lead. Showing some character, the Youth team fought back with Fraser Cameron narrowing the score to 2-1 at half-time, but Queenstown edged ahead in the second spell to eventually win 3-1 .
