Football: Difficult task for women's side

Football South's women face another tough task in tomorrow's national league game against the New Zealand Development team at Tahuna Park.

Coaches David Martin-Chambers and Hayley Stirling started with a diminished squad, and it has since shrunk with injuries to key players Hanna English, Shontelle Smith, and Kelsey Kennard.

Football South has yet to score a goal in the league, while tomorrow's opposition managed a 2-2 draw against Northern and a narrow 2-1 loss to Mainland.

That does not faze Stirling, who is organised enough to get videos of opposition teams sent south, and uses edited clips to get her coaching points across.

''It's early days yet,'' she said.

''The girls are passing the ball around quite well. It's just a matter of building confidence - and scoring that first goal.''
