Caversham has built an intimidating lead at the top of the Football South Premier League, and will aim for more ruthless form against Mosgiel today.
A 10-point lead is slightly misleading in that Caversham has played a couple more games than the chasing mob, but points in hand are always favoured by ambitious coaches.
The strike duo of brothers Tom and Lewis Jackson are an important ingredient in Caversham's success.
The Jacksons have scored 26 goals between them this season.
That is more than the combined totals of bottom teams Northern and Varsity, who together have scored 24.
Tom Jackson also has a prodigious throw in his armoury, allowing Caversham's big men - Jude Fitzpatrick, Andrew Ridden and the spring-heeled Logan Wrightwebb - to muster in opposition goalmouths to devastating effect.
Mosgiel has played three fewer games, and those games could be worth nine points, but the Plainsmen have suffered from absenteeism and injuries recently.
Striker Regan Coldicott has had a string of injuries and is unlikely to be fit this weekend.
Coach Andrew Brook's team can play an attractive short-passing game with midfield general Eder Franchini spraying passes, but to be effective and stretch the opposition, a longer-range alternative is necessary, and Coldicott leaves a hole up front.
At the back, centre half Aaron Corkill will also be missing after he and Dunedin Technical striker Josh Stewart clashed heads last week.
Stewart survived with a bloody turban bandage but Corkill clearly looked dazed and will be out for three weeks.
Tom Kindly is suspended for a couple of weeks, and Tom Cairns and Kegan Teague are off to Australia watching touring British football.
That will test Mosgiel's reserve strength, but a positive is the return from futsal of Rahan Ali and Hamish Cotter, and possibly the height of Tom Bekkers in defence.
Dunedin Technical plays Roslyn-Wakari at Ellis Park and with the bit between his teeth, Technical player-coach Aaron Burgess will be desperate for his team to extend its undefeated run.
It clearly cannot afford to drop any more points in the FPL title race.
Against Green Island midweek, Technical won 4-1 without hitting dizzy heights, and the Island might have punished some soft play early in the second half.
Roslyn will test Technical but will miss the energy of Blair Bates, who has moved north, and Fraser Cameron.
Coach Colin Thom may also miss inspirational captain Cam Attwood.
So it looks as if thin squads could be found out this weekend and after a strong performance midweek, Green Island should start as favourite against University at the Caledonian Ground, but the fluctuating form of local football means nothing is certain.
After a week's training camp in Dunedin, the Milk Cup squad leaves today.
The youngsters head to Manchester for two warm-up games then on to Coleraine for the opening games against Real Sociedad, Alset (Colombia) and County Armagh.
