Volts seamer looking good for NEV on return from injury

A roundup of premier club cricket games played in Dunedin at the weekend.

CDK 108 lost to North East Valley 109/1

Travis Muller warmed up for the Ford Trophy with a three-wicket bag for North East Valley in the Dunedin premier club competition on Saturday.

The Otago seamer has been nursing an injury and missed the Volts’ opening four Plunket Shield games.

But he has found some nice rhythm ahead of the one-day campaign which gets under way on November 25.

He snapped up three for 25 to help dismiss CDK for a paltry 108 at Brooklands Park on Saturday.

Kaleb Mckay (two for 16) and Hunter Kindley (two for eight) were instrumental as well.

Vinay Chandrappa did his best to hold CDK’s innings together with an unbeaten 51 from 75 balls. But no-one was able to stick with him.

Kindley made sure there would be no mishaps in the reply. The Swans captain pumped 80 not out from 56 balls to help his side clinch a comprehensive victory.

He swatted six sixes and seven fours in a continuation of the promising start he has made to the season.

Albion 123 lost to University-Grange 124/4

Volts left-armer Andrew Hazeldine and Lahiru Vimukthi teamed up to rout Albion for 123 at Logan Park.

Hazeldine got University-Grange off to a good start. He bowled opener Lucky Singh for a duck and trapped fellow opener Lewis Garden for one, finishing with three for four from 5.5 overs.

Vimukthi picked up the prized wickets of Amal Ashok for 50 and Taylor Cumberland for 27, then ripped through the middle order to claim five for 43.

Josh Tasman-Jones was the only other Albion player to get into double figures. He made 27 from 31 balls.

University-Grange opener Daniel Kirby anchored the chase with 66 from 99 balls.

Venkat Kotte (24) and Sam French (18 not out) chipped in to help their side secure a six-wicket win — their first of the season.

Taieri 145 beat Green Island 92

A gutsy knock by Taieri opener Cameron Jackson set up a 53-run in a low-scoring match against Green Island at Brooklands.

Jackson inched his way to 45 from 100 balls on a day when the bowlers dominated.

Nick Kwant (22) and Ollie Shore (31) made valuable contributions as well as Taieri scratched out 145.

Veteran Green Island left-armer Blair Soper claimed four scalps and Elliot Santner snared three for 15.

But when it was the Swamps Rats turn to bat they found the going tough.

Taieri strike bowlers Toby Hart (three for 27) and Ben McCall (three for 23) were the chief destroyers, while Sam Duff grabbed two for 20 as Green Island tumbled to be all out for 92.

Joele Meade’s 35 not out was the only innings of substances for the Rats.
