North East Valley routs CDK by eight wickets, tops standings

North East Valley posted its fourth consecutive win in the Dunedin premier T20 competition and has a comfortable lead at the top of the standings.

It routed CDK by eight wickets at Tonga Park on Saturday thanks to the efforts of Sam Blakely.

The former Volts medium-pacer snapped up five for eight from four overs in a terrific spell.

Jack Pryde top-scored for the Hounds with 24.

But his side’s tally of 78 did not present a challenge for the competition front-runners.

Thorn Parkes anchored the chase with an undefeated 36 and Hunter Kindley (23 not out) and Will Hamilton (25) helped mow down the target in the 11th over.

University-Grange opened its account in sensational fashion as it blitzed Albion by 100 runs.

Opener Sebastian Lauderdale-Smith smashed 62 to help his side post a challenging total of 168 for six.

Albion stumbled to 68 all out. Former Volts player and Sparks assistant coach Shawn Hicks snapped up four for 12.

The all-rounder retired from cricket at the top level in 2019 after suffering from concussion symptoms, but he made a couple of cameo appearances for Grange this season.

The best game of the day was at Brooklands Park where Taieri edged Green Island by five wickets.

Green Island posted 142 for seven.

Brad Kneebone led the way with 45 from 31 balls.

However, Taieri vice-captain Adam Jones guided his side to the win in the last over with a fine undefeated knock of 62, while Cameron Elliott chipped in with 35.
