Otago opener Hamish Rutherford has picked up where he left off.
The punishing left-hander scored more than 600 runs in March after getting a opportunity late in the summer to make his mark.
He certainly did that with back-to-back centuries against Northern Districts and a double century in the last game of the season.
He was at it again yesterday, whacking 139 not out in a two-day warm-up match against Canterbury in Rangiora.
His ton helped Otago post 350 for seven. Volts captain Derek de Boorder (54 not out) and Mark Craig (52 not out) were the other major contributors. Otago coach Vaughn Johnson was pleased with his side's work.
"We played nice and positively today on what was a reasonably slow wicket," he said.
"The guys who got starts went on and got a few, so that is good."
As for Rutherford, well he just keeps impressing.
"He was just his normal self.
"Mentally tough, quite dominant against the spinners and just looked nice and organised."
Aaron Redmond missed out during his first knock but returned to the crease later in the day and compiled a tidy 15 not out. Neil Broom also returned for a second bat. Both looked to be hitting the ball nicely, Johnson said.
"One or two got starts but missed. But on the whole, to get 350 in a day was good positive cricket. That is all you can ask."
Otago will bowl all day today.
