Twenty20 is a game set up for the batsman and they certainly had their time in the sun in Dunedin club cricket on Saturday.

There were two centuries scored and some big team totals as the boundaries were peppered all afternoon.

Kaikorai has a good day with the bat although it only won one of its two games. Against Taieri at Tonga Park, it was in menacing mood, knocking up a hefty 258 for two wickets in 20 overs.

Hamish Robertson led the way with an unbeaten 114, scored off just 58 balls. He hit 80 runs in boundaries, including 10 sixes.

He had good support from Geordie Scott, who hit 70 off 43 balls, while Josh Finnie came in and whacked 50 off just 18 balls, with 40 of those runs coming in boundaries.

In reply, Taieri never got going and struggled through to 105 in its 20 overs, giving Kaikorai a win by 153 runs. Robertson picked up three wickets while Finnie grabbed two.

Finnie had earlier scored a century in Kaikorai’s first game of the day against North East Valley, again at Tonga Park.

Finnie scored 104 off just 46 balls, hitting 11 sixes as the ball flew all round the field.Kaikorai got through to 188 for eight wickets off its 20 overs and must have been confident it would have enough.

But the Valley side came out and, in the end, did it easily, winning the game in the middle of the 17th over, having lost just four wickets.

Opener Will Kindley hit 92 off just 38 balls to get his side ahead of the run rate as the Valley team  was well past the halfway mark before the 10th over.

Ruan Markram helped steer Valley to the win with an unbeaten 54.

In its second game, North East Valley was unable to get going with the bat against Green Island at Sunnyvale. Batting first, it only managed to get 101 and was dismissed with the first ball of the last over.

Green Island won the match on the final ball of the penultimate over, mainly thanks to Joel Meade. He carried his bat to score 46 as only one other player, Bradley Scott, managed to get into double figures.

Albion was the only side which managed two wins on Saturday and both were hard-fought.

In the first game against Green Island at Tonga Park, Green Island batted first and got through to 130, being dismissed from the second-last ball of the innings.

Scott Simpson tallied 43 and Meade scored 41 but the bowling was generally tight.

In reply, Albion was in some trouble at 90 for six wickets but managed to hold it together to get across the line with three balls to spare and eight wickets down.

In Albion’s second game, it took on Carisbrook-Dunedin at Tonga Park and won by five runs.

Albion batted first and scored 154 for seven wickets in its 20 overs. Josh Tasman-Jones scored 54 and was helped by Mark Somerville, who scored 42.

Carisbrook-Dunedin got close and Sean Eathorne tallied 58. It needed 12 runs off the final over but came up short with wickets in hand.In the other game, Carisbrook-Dunedin had a comfortable win over Taieri at Sunnyvale.

Eathorne was the backbone of his side’s innings, scoring 73 as Carisbrook-Dunedin managed to get through to 160 for five in its 20 overs.

Taieri struggled throughout and made to 105 before being dismissed with one ball left. Sam Angus was the star with the ball for Carisbrook-Dunedin as he picked up six wickets in his four overs. Four of the wickets were bowled as he kept a straight line.
