The Coastal Classic is celebrating its 21st milestone in style with a bumper sold-out event — about 550 participants are expected — on the Taieri on Sunday.
Race director Stephen Green said organisers were excited to have reached their 21st year and organised commemorative medals for each participant to celebrate.
"We sort of feel we’ve got there through innovating over the years," Green said.
The running, walking, and cycling event had always been well supported — including participants from the first event returning this year — as the event catered for all abilities and distances.
"We have the event as a community and we love to draw into the environment.
"We look forward to that every year."
The event starts and finishes in Livingstonia Park, at Taieri Mouth, and the running events range from 5km to 21km along gravel roads, farm paddocks, coastal tracks, beaches and wetlands.
The cycling events range from 15km to 59.5km courses, including a 45km e-bike course, through gravel roads, paddocks and good climbing and downhill variations.
Green said organisers had a few contingencies they were working through due to the recent flooding, with trees down and areas being washed out.
"We’ve tried to keep everything as much the same as possible.
"We think we’ve actually made them more exciting."
