Six fire trucks were sent to extinguish a fire in an Auckland city public toilet this morning.
A plastic toilet roll holder caught alight in a public toilet on Albert Street in the central city at about 10:30am, said Northern Fire communications shift manager Tony Watson.
Mr Watson said six appliances were sent to the historic public toilets, which sit underneath the main thoroughfare of Albert Street.
"It was a toilet block. We had a full turn-out. It was a fire in a plastic toilet roll holder. It's gotta be deliberate, there's no electrical activity around anywhere near there.''
He said it was unclear whether a toilet roll or the holder itself was set alight.
Six trucks were sent to the scene because the job was logged as a structure in the central city, so it was standard practice to send the full amount of trucks, he said.
"You just don't know until you get there. It could have been bigger than Texas or it could have been nothing. It was a standard city turnout.''
He said he didn't know how large the fire got, but the flames were brought under control quickly.
