Police have released the name of the man who died after the truck he was in went over the edge of a Bluff wharf yesterday.
He was Morrell Mark McKenzie (51), of Bluff.
Local coastguard and divers found Mr McKenzie, who was the sole occupant of the truck, trapped inside the submerged vehicle after police were called to the area about 1.30pm.
He died at the scene and emergency services had recovered both the body and the vehicle by early yesterday evening.
Mr McKenzie was the managing director of the McKenzie Marine & Mackraft company in Bluff.
'Well-known' member of the community.
Mr McKenzie was a ''well-known'' member of the Bluff community.
South Port chief executive Mark O'Connor said the company was ''deeply saddened'' by the incident and extended its condolences to his family and friends.
Mr McKenzie was a ''well-known person in the community'' and his death would ''hit the township very hard'', Mr O'Connor said.
The port would be working closely alongside the authorities investigating the incident, including WorkSafe New Zealand.
WorkSafe New Zealand confirmed it was investigating the incident and two of its inspectors visited the scene yesterday.
