A 37-year-old man at the centre of an armed offenders squad callout to Benhar, near Balclutha, on Wednesday night was found dead inside the house, police say.
Senior Sergeant Richard Whitmore, of Balclutha, said the Dunedin armed offenders squad was called to assist nine local police officers.
Road blocks were put in place on State Highway 1 and Mt Wallace Rd. Police are not looking for anyone in connection with the death, and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
