"Janice has been a member of our volunteer group for years, and was vice-chair before taking on the role of chairperson," her nominator on behalf of Waihola Looking Forward said.
"Janice leads from the front and is constantly seen around the village at some project or other, and her sunflower garden at the Waihola Domain was a sight to behold."
Asked for comment, Ms Farrell kept her eye on the future.
"The goal is to keep developing the sense of community in Waihola for all who live here and visit," she said.
"Waihola Looking Forward always invites new people to join us and build friendship and support networks, and create a feeling of belonging in our community."
