Susan Stevens, chairwoman of the Gibbston Community Association (GCA), said "as many volunteers as possible" were needed to help plant 273 natives along the Kawarau River.
She said there were a few pockets of native vegetation along the trail, but the majority of plant life was briar, gorse and broom.
After a previous working bee in March last year, Mrs Stevens said the GCA was keen to establish another pocket of natives before the launch on December 4.
She had received $500 from the Honda TreeFund, with which she bought 11 types of native New Zealand plants.
Mrs Stevens said interest in the working bee had been positive.
"We've got all sorts of people signed up."
