Queenstown plans for a new primary school in Queenstown could be one step closer.
Mountain Scene revealed in February the Ministry of Education (MoE) was on the hunt for a new site and this week education infrastructure boss Kim Shannon confirmed it was now in the purchasing stage.
"We are currently in the process of purchasing a possible site for a new school. We don’t comment on potential sites during this process, as this information is commercially sensitive."
Ms Shannon would not say when the ministry would reveal the location.
MoE’s investment in the Wakatipu comes as school rolls continue to climb.
An $11million rebuild, spurred on after the ministry discovered Arrowtown School was leaky, will increase its capacity by almost 20%, to 700 pupils.
Meanwhile, the two-year build of the new Wakatipu High School is reaching the final construction phase. The school is on track to open its doors to more than 900 pupils in February.
