A Queenstowner who walked up and down Arrowtown’s Tobins Track for 12 hours, fundraising for Bowel Cancer New Zealand, was thrilled with the support she received.

Louise Clark says she committed to the challenge last Sunday — to coincide with Bowel Cancer Awareness Month — after one of her best friends from university in the UK died from the disease in February.

"She was 41 and I turn 41 in a couple of weeks’ time."

Clark left a container at the bottom of Tobins for supplies, but also with a QR code on it for people to donate.

"The amount of strangers that saw me and who donated, I was just blown away by the support, it was incredible."

She says she chose a challenge that was accessible, and as result, she had friends along with her husband and daughter join her for various laps.

Over 12 hours she completed 11-and-a-half laps, or 51.79km, with an elevation gain of 2811m, and the day after was feeling it in her hips.

A highlight was seeing a rainbow after rain in the afternoon — "rainbows remind me of my friend, so I was like, ‘this is amazing"’.

As of Monday she’d raised $2695, including a matching contribution from toilet tissue manufacturer CottonSofts.
