Ramada Queenstown officially opened for business today, helping general manager Greg Ewen tick an item off his bucket list.

Mr Ewen will manage the 72-bed hotel with wife Pauline.

Speaking to the Otago Daily Times, after Clutha-Southland MP Todd Barclay cut the ribbon, he said it was an exciting time for the hospitality industry in Queenstown and them personally.

After a soft launch in June demand has been high and the hotel has attracted a variety of clients.

''We have a really good spread; a good domestic market, we have strong group sales coming through ... We are big on the American market but also European sales and Chinese visitors.''

Mr Barclay credited the resort's hardworking tourist industry and said the new hotel at Remarkables Park would help meet the growing need for visitor accommodation.

Work on a second multimillion-dollar hotel next door, also part of the Wyndham portfolio, is expected to start in March next year.
