Wakatipu had another hard-fought win on Saturday at the Queenstown Rec Ground, beating Cromwell A 11-8. The home side scored all its points in the second half and retained the White Horse Cup.

Coach Damian Petre said it was the same situation the team had found itself in for the past three weeks.

''We had to pull our fingers out in the second half ... it wasn't so much lucky - we dominated possession and territory for the [majority] of the game, but we were just making stupid errors; just turning the ball over too easily.

''We weren't looking after the ball as well as we should have ... we made life very difficult for ourselves.

''We got there. We'll take the win and move on to next week.''

Petre said his team's sole try scorer, John Noonan, was named joint player of the day, along with forward Pita Wilson.

In Arrowtown, the Bulls enjoyed a try-scoring rampage in their game against Cromwell B, winning 74-0.

Coach Hayden Finch said while the game was ''a bit messy'' the bench was fully utilised, with appearances from Tom Dagg and Matt Simmers - neither of whom had played for Arrowtown before.

Dagg, replacing injured wing Izzy Nayaloga, had 25 minutes on the field and narrowly missed out on marking his debut with a try.

''We might even see them at training this week, with a bit of luck,'' Finch said.

''We're just getting so many injuries, which is a bit frustrating, but hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we might see everyone back.''

The full extent of Nayaloga's knee injury was expected to be known this week, however, it was possible he would be sidelined for about six weeks.

Arrowtown's player of the day was Adam Hubber.

This Saturday, Arrowtown will take on the Wakatipu Wanderers at Jack Reid Park, and the Wakatipu Premiers travel to Clyde, to take on Clyde-Earnscleugh.

Kick-off for both games is 2.30pm.

The Wakatipu Under 8 Razorback rugby team beat its Arrowtown counterpart 55-25 on Saturday, the Arrowtown Under 10 Eagles beat Wakatipu 40-35 and the Open Grade Basin Combined team beat Upper Clutha 34-14.
