The Queenstown Rangers junior ice hockey team came unstuck trying to defend its junior transtasman ice hockey title last week.
In a nailbiting penalty shootout after the scores were tied at fulltime, Queenstown beat Dunedin in the playoff for third place on Friday in the under-14 International Pee-Wee ''Clash of the Tasman'' tournament.
But it was unable to defend the title it won in Adelaide last year after losing 3-4 to Victoria on Thursday.
Victoria beat Brisbane 3-0 in the final.
Teams from Queenstown, Dunedin and Tekapo took on teams from Adelaide, Victoria and Brisbane over five days at the Queenstown Ice Arena.
More than 150 players were involved.
