More than $13,000 was raised at the inaugural Supper Club fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House South Island in Queenstown on Wednesday night.

Fundraising manager Lydia Hemingway said more than 70 people gathered at the Skyline Gondola Restaurant and Luge for a cocktail party followed by an auction conducted by Brendan Quill.

A random draw decided who would dine in each of the nine restaurants that night.

The Skyline Gondola Restaurant and Luge sponsored the cocktail function and the restaurants Bella Cucina, Eichardts Private Hotel, Botswana Butchery, Gantleys Restaurant, threesixty, The Bathhouse, Pier 19, Tatler Restaurant and Bar and Wai donated the meals, she said.

"We were thrilled with the generosity of the local restaurants, businesses and people who attended the event."

Myschel and Mark Albrecht, of Queenstown, also spoke at the cocktail function about their stay at Ronald McDonald House last year when their daughter Chamonix needed surgery.

"It was fantastic to have such a friendly welcome from the staff who made us feel at ease, especially when we were so worried about Chamonix," Mrs Albrecht said.

All of the funds raised from the Supper Club will go directly towards providing free support and accommodation for families of sick children.

Ms Hemingway said the event was such a success that Ronald McDonald House intended to make it an annual event.

"We're looking forward to coming back next year with even more restaurants involved," Ms Hemingway said.
