Road closed for duathlon

Queenstown Lakes District Council approved the closure of a road for the next annual Real Women's Duathlon at Millbrook Resort at its meeting last week.

Malaghans Rd will be closed from Manse Rd to Hunter Rd, from 9am to 11am, on March 21.

Organisers Ted Pearce Event Services Ltd applied to close the road temporarily so it could hold the event in a safe and productive manner.

A report to councillors by Libby Sudden, of Lakes Environmental, said the event had been run smoothly with no traffic problems for the past two years.

A traffic management plan has been lodged with the council's infrastructure services department for approval.

The organisers will distribute a letter in March to residents advising of the closure and suggesting an alternative route, and put detour signs in place.

The closure is subject to three conditions: approval of the final traffic management plan; radio advertising of the event; suitable disposal of rubbish/refuse and recycling.
