Plan change approved

The new industrial B zone in Wanaka was signed off this week by the Queenstown Lakes District Council's strategy committee, and rezoning the 10.25ha site is one step away from completion.

The industrial land, between Gordon Rd and Frederick St and those sites subdivided on the southern side of Frederick St, will also include about 4.26ha of open space in public and private ownership.

After problems in the district's first industrial zone, "sensitive uses" such as residential development have been banned, and open areas and landscaping provided for to mitigate effects on existing and future residential developments in neighbouring areas.

Eleven submissions were received on the plan change, and the change was accepted with amendments recommended by commissioners to address concerns raised in submissions.

The amendments included the addition of an area of land owned by Orchard Road Holdings; requiring the Connell Terrace Precinct to be further lowered; and the removal of development rights for the southwest corner of the zone.

Offices will also be prohibited, and further policies relating to nuisance such as odour added.

After the plan change is notified, a period of 90 days will be available for appeals to be lodged.
