Cookie Time has employed the help of Weta Workshop to bring its cookie muncher character to life for a flagship store in Queenstown.
Cookie Time general manager Lincoln Booth said the company would be spending a "very reasonable six figure sum" on the new Queenstown retail shop, which it planned to franchise throughout the world.
The shop, opposite the Post Office on Camp St, will open on May 10.
"We took over the lease at Christmas time and are undergoing design work at the moment," Mr Booth said.
Weta Workshop would add "x factor" and "creative energy" to the shop, he said.
"We want to bring our cookie muncher to life. He is a static character so we want to bring some personality . . . to him after 27 years," he said.
Cookie Time had grown from delivering cookies to dairies in Christchurch 27 years ago to a national company.
The planned Queenstown store would be very different from its national retail model, Mr Booth said.
"The Queenstown store will be an interactive brand experience. With people like Richard Taylor at Weta Workshop involved, we're telling the brand story in an exciting way, touching on all the senses. It's primarily a showcase opportunity for the brand," he said.
The Queenstown location was chosen for its high national and international visitor numbers.
