Icy conditions look to have been a factor in two crashes either side of Omarama today.
Police say at least three people have been taken to hospital after a car crashed on the Omarama side of the Lindis Pass just before 1pm.
Volunteer fire brigade units from Omarama, Otematata and Cromwell attended.
Acting Sergeant Stuart Dowling said the driver was being spoken to.
Police were investigating, acting Sgt Dowling said, but "the road was icy at the time of the crash".
Police earlier said a truck slid on ice just north of Omarama about 2.30am, forcing part of the road shut for several hours and leaving the truck driver with minor injuries.
The road was cleared about 12.30pm and restored to two lanes after a crane was called in to right the truck which ended up on its side.
