Cold weather did not restrict the North Otago rugby squad's training over the weekend, with a full day of preparation for the Heartland championship in Kurow on Saturday followed by cycling 55km of the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail in the snow yesterday.

Twenty North Otago players, accompanied by coach Barry Stevens and assistant coach Jason Forrest, left Duntroon at 9am yesterday, surrounded by snow, bound for Oamaru along the Alps 2 Ocean trail.

Team manager Duncan Kingan said riding the trail was the culmination of a weekend's hard work, as the team spent Saturday in Kurow for a training session - starting at 10am with a whiteboard session, setting out goals and self beliefs, followed by individual work and fitness training until 5.30pm.

The Heartland Championship begins on August 22 with North Otago facing West Coast in Oamaru.

The team has a pre season game this Saturday against Mid Canterbury at home in Oamaru.
