On Monday night, the Skeggs Foundation is hosting a function at the Brydone Hotel for athletes, coaches and local sporting organisations.
Organiser Sport Waitaki co-ordinator Kate Holland said the function was to raise awareness of the Skeggs Foundation, which makes grants, and the support available for athletes in North Otago.
Despite the ''high calibre of athletes in the district'', very few applications for grants came from North Otago, she said.
It was hoped some athletes representing Otago who did not know of the support available would attend the event.
''It can be a large financial burden to represent Otago, and the Skeggs Foundation's aim is to offset this, allowing athletes to focus on success.''
The Skeggs Foundation was established in 1993 to provide financial assistance to aspiring elite Otago athletes and has handed out more than $2 million to hundreds of athletes from more than 60 sports.
Those wishing to attend the function must be registered with Ms Holland on (03) 434-9379.
