Pedal power took over from horsepower at the Highlands Motorsport Park as competitors took part in the inaugural Highlands Triathlon Sprint at Cromwell.
The motorsport park hosted the event on Saturday.
Cyclists and runners used part of the race track, while the triathlon swimming leg took place in a small lake within the track confines.
Co-organiser Ed Stevens said the event went well and would definitely be held again next year.
The events included a sprint distance triathlon, criterium, teams triathlon and children's triathlon.
More than 100 people entered. Winner of the sprint distance triathlon was Fynn Thompson (17), of Queenstown, in 58min 2sec, ahead of Dougal Allan, of Wanaka, in 58:23. Thompson said the event and venue was ''really awesome''.
''The track was amazing to ride on, so smooth and seamless.''
Allan was equally enthusiastic and said it was an event with great potential.
''I can see it being a great training race, especially with that lake.
''It's a really good, safe environment to introduce people to the swimming leg, rather than being in open water.''
Motorsport park owner Tony Quinn was pleased to have had the chance to diversify the use of the park.
''There will be motorsport race meetings no more than three times a year here, so it's good to be able to use it to host community events, like the triathlon, too,'' he said.
