The company which was illegally quarrying schist at Omeo Rd at Earnscleugh near Alexandra has still not applied for a retrospective resource consent.
The application from SRS Ltd was due at the council last Friday August 8.
Central Otago District Council (CODC) planning team leader Ann Rodgers said the application could be lodged next week as the company was still working through some issues.
The Historic Places Trust (HPT) had now taken an interest in the site and Mrs Rodgers took the regional archaeologist, Matthew Schmidt, to the site on Thursday for an inspection.
"The HPT may require an archaeological survey before the application can be lodged," Mrs Rodgers said.
All work on the site had stopped and the council was monitoring what was happening there, she said.
