Some big names in New Zealand wool will arrive in Owaka next week to advance Wool-partners International's vision for a unified New Zealand wool industry.
Ian Abercrombie, Mark Shadbolt and Rob Cochrane are coming to Owaka to address South Otago growers on how they plan to improve the value of strong wool by creating demand in the international market and consolidating supply.
Woolpartners International wool representative for South Otago Richard Hurring said some of the best wool around was grown in Otago.
"The more the price of wool dropped, the more people have looked at other options. It's about unifying the industry."
Mr Hurring said many farmers thought that after years of steady decline, during which time the price of a kilogram of wool had dropped from about $6 to about $2, the wool industry was doomed.
"It's not - there is a company out there that is trying to get it out of the mud."
Farmers needed to come along to the Owaka meeting next Wednesday to hear about the Woolpartners International vision, he said.
