Policeman moving on

After a decade as the sole charge policeman in Ranfurly, Senior Constable Steve Burke is moving on.

Snr Const Burke is transferring to the Dunedin Central Police Station and will take up a constable's role there in January.

Central Otago police sub-area supervisor Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk yesterday reassured Maniototo residents police were well on the way to filling the vacancy and there would continue to be a ''visible police presence'' in the area.

Snr Const Burke had built up a great rapport with locals, Snr Sgt Kerrisk said.

''It is with some regret that we see Steve leave Ranfurly, given the local knowledge he has for this area, but he is now looking to progress his career further and the move to the larger station is the best way for him to do that,'' he said.
