Modern farm girls know what they want and are not afraid to go out and get it.

The seven contestants who faced the judges in yesterday's Merino Wool Princess competition in Alexandra proved this.

They spent all afternoon with the judges talking about themselves and their aspirations.

Each also had to speak from the stage at the Merino Shears competition last night.

Each wore her own choice of merino wool garment, one of the competition requirements.

With futures mapped out in physiotherapy, veterinary medicine, surveying and other professional careers, the seven young women provided judges Steve Battrick and Irene Smith with a real challenge.

Anna Parsons (18), of Waikerikeri Valley, was judged Merino Wool Princess, with Ashleigh Glassford (Omakau) first runner-up and Rebecca Sinnamon (Poolburn) second runner-up.

Miss Sinnamon is Miss Personality.

The three winners will tonight present the winners of the Merino Shears competitions with their prizes at the Merino Shears competitions being held at Molyneux Stadium in Alexandra.
