Alexandra man Dick McArthur, who was seriously injured in a fall on Monday, was yesterday transferred from Dunedin Hospital to Christchurch Hospital.
Mr McArthur (68) was trimming shrubs on his property in Taylor Pl, just above Centennial Park, about 8pm when he lost his footing and fell about 10m down a cliff.
His son-in-law, Shane Gilchrist, said the accident happened in a part of the garden Mr McArthur had been working on for about 35 years.
As well as spinal injuries Mr McArthur has broken ribs, a damaged spleen and a broken shoulder blade.
Details on his condition were not available last night.
Mr McArthur is involved in numerous community organisations, being a life member, along with his wife Beth, of the Central Otago Merino Stud Breeders.
A former president of the New Zealand Golden Fleece Fine Wool Society, Mr McArthur is well known in curling circles, holding the position of "My Lord" at the curlers court.
