A massive effort by Maniototo residents has put the Maniototo Hospital rebuild almost $100,000 closer to its fundraising target.

The Maniototo Dine and Dance in Ranfurly last weekend raised just over $95,000 from ticket sales and auctions, bar takings and donations.

More than 300 people attended. Maniototo Health Services Ltd chairman Stuart Patterson said money from the event took total funds raised to almost $4.8 million.

Before last weekend, $4.7million of the $5.4 million needed had been raised: $2million from MHSL reserves; $2 million from the Central Otago District Council, which would be paid back by Maniototo ratepayers; and the remainder from Maniototo fundraising, donations and grants.

Mr Patterson said the dine and dance was a "tremendous effort" and he continued to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the Maniototo community.

"It’s almost hard to know what to say."

A project manager and architect were finalising and repricing the plans for the rebuild, and it was hoped they would be completed within a month. The project remained on target for construction to begin in the first quarter of next year, Mr Patterson said.
