The Big Air Boot Camp has returned to Alexandra and former Crusty Demon Luke Smith is looking to advance riders' freestyle motocross (FMX) skills and teach first-timers new tricks at the Easter camp.

Stephen Smith, of Gore, is pictured showing his new skills during February's Big Air Boot Camp in Alexandra.

South Island Moto Mayhem manager Regan Healey, who ran the first round of three-day tuition sessions in February with Luke Smith, said the riders' improvements were both rewarding to watch and rewarded by opportunities to tour nationally with the Moto Mayhem team.

The 20 riders signed up for the Friday to Sunday camp, where they learn everything from the basics through to using the foam pits and ramps, will not be seeing Smith in action this time around. Although he participated in an FMX display at the World Speedway Championships in Auckland at the weekend, Smith was "still a bit sore" after breaking a shoulder and two ribs and being bruised and concussed at the February boot camp in Alexandra, Mr Healey said.
