The Vincent Community Board yesterday held its first meeting since the election. With re-elected chairwoman Clair Higginson (centre) are Mel Bell (left) and Claire Goudie, both of Alexandra, and (back, from left) Stu Millis, of Alexandra, James...

An attempt to unseat the chairwoman of the Vincent Community Board was unsuccessful yesterday.

Clair Higginson was returned as chairwoman for a third term, Stu Millis being the only board member to oppose her re-election at the new board's first meeting in Alexandra yesterday.

Mr Millis nominated new member Barry Hambleton as chairman but the nomination lapsed after failing to get a seconder.

Board members were sworn in and sitting members Ms Higginson, Claire Goudie, Barrie Wills and James Armstrong were joined by ''first-timers'' Mr Hambleton, Mel Bell and Malcolm Topliss.

Mr Millis took the remaining seat.

He had previously served a term on the board and Central Otago District Council, from 2004-07.

Ms Higginson said this would be her last term on the board and council and there were lots of projects she wanted to see completed or well under way during the next three years.
