The opportunity to try the latest releases is a high point on many calendars.
Alexandra Basin Wine Growers will host an afternoon at the Clyde railway reserve at Labour Weekend featuring their latest wines.
Vice-president Annie Winmill said there were more than 25 vineyards in the Alexandra Basin, each producing award-winning quality wines while working harmoniously with the terroir and elements.
On October 27 they would host an afternoon of wine tasting and live music.
There would be special offers on wine bought at the event, she said.
The Alexandra Basin, lying below the 45th parallel, was the most southerly Central Otago wine sub-region and the world’s most southerly wine-growing region.
Central Otago’s first vineyard was established by French gold miner Jean Desire Feraud.
By 1870 he had planted more than 1200 vines and built a stone winery, Monte Cristo, which is still in use as the winery’s cellar door.
The $35 ticket price for the event includes entry, a tasting glass and wine tasting, a booklet which references the vineyards and the wines, accompanied by complimentary cheese, crackers and condiments.
Francesca’s Pizza would selling their fare on site.
If the weather was unsuitable the event would be held the following day.
