The newly elected Queenstown-based trustee on the board of Film New Zealand says he wants to develop the strong working relationship between the national body and the seven regional film offices.

Film Otago Southland executive manager Kevin Jennings joined Digital Post Ltd founder and managing director Garry Little and Sidhe Interactive business development executive Jos Ruffell for their first meeting as trustees in Wellington on October 16.

The board has five scheduled meetings a year.

Mr Jennings said the role involved carrying ideas or issues from regional film offices to the board.

The voluntary two-year appointment was a vote of confidence from the other offices that he could represent them well, he said.

"New Zealand is unique in that we have a great symbiotic relationship with each film office, whereas in other parts of the world it's quite competitive."

The other trustees are production accountant Keith Mackenzie, of Wanaka, producer Julie Elstone, of Wellington, and Sarah Cull, nominated by the New Zealand Film Commission.

Line producer Murray Francis was invited to continue as a trustee for a further year.

The three new trustees replace founding trustees Peter Avery and Sue Thompson, and trustee Dame Cheryll Sotheran, who have resigned.

Mr Avery, of Film Venture Taranaki, was the previous regional film officer representative on the board.

Queenstown producer and director Julian Grimmond continues as chairman.

The charitable trust also appointed Howard Greive, of the Assignment Group, marketing adviser to the board.
