The Big Night In telethon saw celebrities playing host at venues around the country as the show was broadcast for 23 hours.
KidsCan executive Director Julie Helson said the trust was overwhelmed by the generosity people had shown.
The charity works to help disadvantaged children by providing food and items such as raincoats and shoes.
TV3, who aired the event, said donations were still being received and a final figure would be available later.
