Rugby: Lomu to make comeback in France

All Black great Jonah Lomu is set to join third-division French club Marseille.

"Marseille is on the cusp of finalising the transfer of the biggest legend in world rugby," the club said on its website.

The 34-year-old Lomu played 63 tests for the All Blacks. His international career was cut short by a rare kidney ailment, for which he eventually needed a transplant in 2004. The powerfully built winger was one of the stars at the World Cup in 1995 and 1999.

"I decided to take a sabbatical year to be around for the pregnancy of my companion," Lomu was quoted in French as saying on Marseille's site. "Everybody thought that I was stopping my career but that's wrong. I still feel the need to play, and I alone will decide when the end is."
