Highlanders assistant coach Tony Brown said good teams find ways to win and that is exactly what the Highlanders did last night.
Brown said the 15-9 win over the Brumbies could be put down to the tight culture of the team and its tenacity and drive to win any game.
"In wet weather conditions that we had then, the game is always going to be tight and then it comes down to defence,'' he said from Canberra last night.
"As long as you are not giving away penalties and you have faith in your defence then it can be hard for the opposition to score tries.''
Brown said the conditions were poor so the game was always going to be close.
"We woke up to thunderstorms and rain just teeming down and that how it was pretty much the whole day. That kept up right through the game. They were pretty horrible conditions to play rugby in.''
Brown felt the Highlanders had shaded the Brumbies and deserved to win, although they had not played well.
"I thought we played a little bit better than the Brumbies and played better rugby. But we did not play exceptional and were average but we found a way to win.
"That is 100% down to the culture within the team. Good teams just find a way to win.''
The Highlanders will not fear who they play next week but they will be getting sick of airports.
The side has been in the air for more than 65 hours over the past month and has flown around the world.
And if either the Lions or the Stormers win tonight, the defending champion may well be heading back to South Africa.
The Highlanders head to Sydney today and early tomorrow will know if they are heading to South Africa or coming home.
The side will get on a plane to Dunedin mid-morning tomorrow if they are heading home or wait two hours and start the long trek to South Africa.
Brown said obviously they wanted to come back to Dunedin and play under the roof next week.
The only injury concern after the game is in the front row.
Tighthead prop Siosiua Halanukonuka injured his ankle when leaping for a ball.
He is likely to be out for a few weeks and may not be seen again this season.
Loosehead prop Daniel Lienert-Brown picked up a concussion and will be monitored in the next few days.
