Highlanders centre Matt Faddes admits he does not have to look far for guidance.
And those around him are helping him get over the tryline.
Faddes (24) scored two tries in the Highlanders 34-26 victory over the Crusaders last night, playing out of his skin in an All Black-laden backline.
Faddes said it was a privilege to play in such a talented side.
"To get the chance to play in a team and play in a backline with special players - it is blessing really. On the defensive side, they [Crusaders] had a lot of attacking weapons to focus on and that paid dividends for me.
"They had to watch out for Waisake [Naholo], who had a stormer last week and again this week. It's nice to have a few more chances,'' he said.
"It was a top performance from the team. We had a game plan and we executed it to a T.''
He was living the dream, playing for the Highlanders, in front of a sold-out crowd, when a year ago he was playing club rugby at suburban grounds.
"You can't really hear much, you are relying on body language and things. When people score tries the ground is distorted and you can't hear anything.
"It's been a childhood dream to play for the Highlanders, back in the '90s and going to watch them play.''
Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph said his team scored some great attacking tries, but he paid tribute to the top defensive effort in the opening 20 minutes which laid the way for the win.
"I'm just really proud of the resilience. There was a little bit of luck. There were moments there when lesser teams would have bowed, especially against the Crusaders, with their All Blacks,'' Joseph said.
"But once we could absorb that it did not dent our confidence. It actually made our resolve stronger. That was a really pleasing sign of the game.''
He praised the speed of Faddes, the bench players had made an impact and it was hard to single anyone out.
"It was the ultimate team performance and as a coach you've got to be proud.''
Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder was not too disheartened by the loss.
Two disallowed tries in the first 20 minutes was tough but the 50-50 calls did not go the side's way, he said.
The team had learnt much from the game which would help it in the next few weeks.
