Feathers flew in dozens of cities around the world as tens of thousands donned their PJs and grabbed their favourite pillow to celebrate International Pillow Fight Day.

The International Pillow Fight Day was founded in 2008 by the Urban Playground Movement and has steadily gown in popularity.

The free-for-all does have a handul of rules - no swinging at people with cameras or without pillows, soft pillows only, and clean up afterwards.

Otherwise, participants are encouraged to embrace the inner child and just have fun.

Customs vary from city to city, but participants often have an opportunity to donate their weapon of choice to a local homeless shelter at the end of the pajama-themed pummel-fest.
