Naseby was the place to be for good old-fashioned family fun yesterday, especially if you were a slime curling fan.

The town is renowned for its international curling rink, so it seemed only logical to ‘‘borrow'' from that sport when deciding on the activities for the fun day, held in the recreation grounds.

Young curlers used a stick to lift a slime-covered cloth and then pitch it at a target, winning prizes for the closest to the target.

The fun day has been on the town's holiday calendar for about 17 years and it attracted about 1000 people this year, roughly five times the town's usual population.

Gumboot throwing, running races, a family obstacle course challenge, three-legged races, sack races and a scavenger hunt were among the other activities.

Organiser Dave Crutchley, of Danseys Pass, said any proceeds from the day would go to St John Ambulance.

He was pleased with the attendance and the volunteers ‘‘who turned up from everywhere'' to help with the day.

Cherie Campbell, of Queenstown, who was holidaying with her family in Naseby, said the organisers did a great job.

‘‘It's an awesome event and a good opportunity for the families to get together and have some fun.''
