Three teenagers have been charged with arson after a New Plymouth house was badly damaged in a blaze suspected of being started by fireworks.
Firefighters were called to the Darwin Crescent address on Saturday, after the owner noticed smoke coming from the roof.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus to get up into the roof to put out the blaze.
Police told the Taranaki Daily News that it appeared the fire was started by fireworks landing on the roof.
Three teenagers, two aged 17 and one aged 16, had been arrested and charged with arson.
They were released on police bail to appear in New Plymouth Youth Court in December.
