The dolls will star in the Magdolia exhibition at Dunedin Community Art Gallery today and tomorrow.

The 55 dolls in the exhibition were made by Ms Armstrong and were mostly women, including Marilyn Monroe, Mary Poppins, Shirley Temple, Florence Nightingale, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Wilma and Pebbles Flintstone, Mona Lisa and Hilda Ogden from Coronation Street.

The two male dolls in the exhibition were Prince George of Cambridge and a kilted Scotsman riding a bicycle.

''I enjoy these dolls so much and I want other people to enjoy them.''

She began making the dolls about three years ago and each doll took between 20 hours to 30 hours to create.

The dolls were taken to her school, or shown to her two daughters Emily and Lucy, for a reaction.

''Kids are good critics and give honest feedback.''
